RUSSIAN PAPER THINKS ALIYEV AND KOCHARIAN WILL DISCUSS IN PARIS THE SETTLEMENT VARIANT, PROPOSED BY MOSCOW

PanARMENIAN.Net - 24.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. In spite of the fact that the meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan on January 26 in Paris will be held through the mediation of the French President Jacques Chirac, the main topic discussed will be the settlement plan, proposed by Moscow, Russian "Kommersant" paper reports.

As a proof of this the paper quotes the unexpected visit of the Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Ivanov to Armenia and Azerbaijan on January 21-22.

The press secretary of the Armenian President Vahe Gabrielian said on January 23 at a press conference in Yerevan that no "extraordinary" questions were discussed at Ivanov's meetings with the Armenian leadership. Gabrielian said the sides discussed questions of Armenian-Russian bilateral relations and the situation in the region. The press secretary didn't exclude that the Karabakh conflict settlement was also discussed in this context. --0--
