OSCE MINSK GROUP WILL LIVEN UP ITS ACTIVITY IN 2001

PanARMENIAN.Net - 13.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "The aim of the visit of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen to the region was to get acquainted with the results of the meetings of Presidents Kocharian and Aliyev, held in Minsk, and to specify the positions of the conflicting sides", the chairman of the parliamentary commission of Armenia for foreign affairs Hovanes Hovanisian stated in the interview to Mediamax.

According to him, the co-chairmen didn't speak with new proposals on Karabakh conflict settlement, and the concept of "common state", accepted by Armenia and NKR and rejected by Azerbaijan, is still on the table.

The somewhat passivity of the international negotiators, in Hovanisian's opinion, can be explained by the strive of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen to wait for the results of the direct dialogue between Armenian and Azeri presidents. "I hope that after the new year the Minsk Group will liven up its activity, which may bring to a new formula to settle the Karabakh issue", Hovanisian stressed. -0-
