THE NEXT SESSION OF THE TRIAL OF THE TERRORIST ACT AGAINST RNK PRESIDENT WILL BE HELD TOMORROW, OCTOBER 11

PanARMENIAN.Net - 10.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The hearing of the testimony of witnesses was continued today in Stepanakert at the trial of the case of the terrorist act against RNK President.

As the correspondent of MEDIAMAX reports, accused Levon Mirzoyan turned to the court with a request to give him a defense. Earlier, from the very first days of the investigation, he had refused the counsel for the defense, saying he had no relation to the crime committed and was able to defend his interests himself. The court satisfied his petition. Levon Mirzoyan wasn't against the trial to proceed without the participation of his lawyer, who, as expected, will arrive in Stepanakert from Yerevan on October 11.

The relative of the accused Eric Faramazian - Arsen Grigorian confirmed his statements, given during the preliminary investigation, that in the morning of March 22, after the realization of the terrorist act, E. Faramazian told him that an assassination attempt on RNK president was committed and that he could be arrested. Accused Faramazian confirmed those words.

On the initiative of the RNK ex defense minister Samvel Babayan and his lawyer, witness Marietta Petrosian was also called to the session, but the State Prosecutor Mavr Ghukasian objected to her giving testimony as she is a close relative of the main accused. The court supported the opinion of the state prosecutor. Due to the inexpediency to continue the trial without the participation of Levon Mirzoyan's lawyer, the court decided to postpone the session till tomorrow.

The trial of the accused of the March 22 terrorist act against RNK President Arkady Ghukasian began on September 18. The main accused of the case is RNK ex defense minister, Lieutenant-General Samvel Babayan. -0-
