CHAIRMEN OF TWO COMMITTEES OF RUSSIAN STATE DUMA WILL ARRIVE IN ARMENIA IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER

The working visit of the delegation of the National Assembly of Armenia to Moscow, headed by the chairman of the parliamentary commission for foreign affairs Hovanes Hovanesian, is over, was reported to MEDIAMAX in the press service of the National Assembly of Armenia.

During the meeting with the head of "Unity" faction Boris Grizlov, which took place in the State Duma, the necessity of realizing concrete reciprocal steps was stressed, first of all in the direction of strengthening interparliamentary relations. This can be achieved by developing economic cooperation between Armenia and Russia, the sides noted.

At the meeting with the chairman of Duma committee for foreign relations, Dmitry Rogozin, Armenian parliamentarians stressed that relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries should be broadened. The importance of cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Russia in different international organizations was also stressed.

Mr. Rogozin expressed willingness to visit Armenia this October during the joint session of the commission for foreign affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia and Duma committee for international relations, to be held in Yerevan. Questions of bilateral cooperation, as well as concrete steps for providing stability and peace in the region are to be discussed at the joint session.

Preliminary agreement was also achieved with the head of the "Unity" deputy faction Boris Grizlov to visit Armenia in November 2000.

Within the framework of the Moscow visit, Armenian parliamentarians also met with the vice-speaker of the Russian State Duma, Arthur Chilingarov and the head of the Duma defense committee, Andrey Nikolayev. -0-
