THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ARMENIAN INTELLIGENTSIA SUGGEST CELEBRATING THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE SEVRE AGREEMENT

"80 years will have passed on August 10 since the day of the signing of the Sevre agreement - the most significant achievement of the Armenian diplomacy in the course of the last centuries", is said in the address of the Armenian intelligentsia to the authorities of Armenia. The address has been signed by famous scientists, writers, painters.

At the request of the agreeing sides, on November 22, 1920 the US president Woodrow Wilson presented the project of the Turkish Armenia (90.000 sq. km), according to which the territory of United Armenia, together with Eastern Armenia, was to make up about 162.000 sq. km.

"In the years of the Soviet totalitarianism not only the correct assessment of the Sevre agreement was impossible, but also it's impartial study. Today we have such possibility and we think that the government of the independent Republic of Armenia must on a worthy state level celebrate the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Sevre agreement. Today it will have not only scientific, but also a political significance, it can promote the strengthening of the international positions of our country", is said in the address.

At the same time the authors of the address suggest immortalizing the memory of "one of the best friends of the Armenian nation" - Woodrow Wilson, naming one of the Yerevan streets after him. -0-
