MP says parties’ expertise preferable to electoral system shift

PanARMENIAN.Net - Full shift to proportional electoral system will not yield tangible results without boosting professionalism within parties, leader of the Christian-Democratic Union said.

As Khosrov Harutyunyan told a press conference, the shift will only lead to enhancement of political corruption risks.

The party head noted legislative consolidation of the stance claiming government must be shaped from parliamentary majority members at National Assembly as the most effective method for enhancing parties’ expertise.

Armenian National Assembly includes 131 parliamentarians, with 41 MPs elected through majority system; 90 MPs - through proportional system.

On December 27, Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties issued a joint statement urging for a full shift to proportional electoral system.
