ARMENIA MOVES IN POSITIVE DIRECTION, OSCE CHAIRMAN-IN-OFFICE SUPPOSES

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia moves in the positive direction, OSCE chairman-in-office, foreign minister of Netherlands Jaap de Hoop Scheffer told "Mediamax" agency today. At that he noted that the whole process of democratic developments in the South Caucasus "is disappointing." However, we should be careful with evaluations, de Hoop Scheffer said. "First of all, I do not think comparisons with other countries are fair - irrespective of the fact whether they are situated in this or any other region. In my opinion, Armenia experiences kind of a transition period. The most important, and I have spoken about it in the course of my visits as the OSCE chairman-in-office, is to follow the trends - the direction in which the situation develops. From that point of view, it seems to me, Armenia is moving in the positive direction. You do not have political prisoners, power is conveyed without civil collisions and in spite of the need for improvement of the record of establishment of legality and media freedom, Armenia maintains itself as a stable country in an unquiet regional environment," the OSCE chairman-in-office said.
