ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTER DECLARED FROM UNESCO TRIBUNE ARMENIAN MONUMENTS BEING DESTROYED IN AZERBAIJAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - In his yesterday's address to the UNESCO 32-nd General Conference Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian again called the attention of forum participants to facts of destruction of Armenian monuments in Azerbaijan. Specifically, he noted, out of 5 thousand khachkars (cross gravestones), raised at the cemetery of Jugha town of Nakhichevan region since the 9-th century, none has survived. Photographs made from the other side of the frontier prove the availability of consistent elimination of those monuments, the remains of which then were taken away via railway. "In spite of the fact that Armenia has repeatedly expressed concern over the issue at various international forums, including the UNESCO, and in spite of the fact that the UNESCO has suggested to send observers there to assess the damage, Azerbaijan persistently denied the fact. Devising its own accounts, Baku diverts the attention of the international community from its own actions subject to condemnation," V. Oskanian stated. He again called on the UNESCO to send observers to the region to evidence the consequences of vandalism of the Azeri party.
