Annual mammography examination crucial, expert says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Cancer can’t be treated, yet it’s preventable. Mammography helps detect malignant tumors at the cellular level, Armenian-American Health Center director stressed.

As Khachanush Hakobyan told a news conference in Yerevan, “the tumor becomes obvious only at the 3rd degree, with no noticeable outward signs up to that point. This is why annual examination is crucial.”

“At our Center, 80-100 patients are examined daily, with 30-40% of examinations purely prophylactic. However, this is the greatest of our achievements, which allowed us to save 2800 lives,” she stressed.

The cost of mammography examination at Armenian-American Health Center is AMD 11 000, uterus canal examination costs AMD 4 000. Special category patients (disabled, mothers of large families) are examined free-of-charge.

Over 213 669 patients were examined at Armenian-American Health Center in the course of 13 years. About 6 500 patients were diagnosed with malignant breast cancer. 43 women out of 29 153 examined were diagnosed with cervical cancer, with precancerous condition detected in 131 patients.
