Armenian architects call on authorities to think over Tower project July 1, 2011 - 17:40 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Yerevan City Hall should have taken into consideration the public opinion when deciding on construction of the tower on the republic square, according to Sargat Petrosyan, member of the Armenian Architects Union. The Armenian public does not come out against the tower construction, but thinks this decision premature, Petrosyan told a press conference in Yerevan. Turning to the assertions that the goal of the tower construction is the accomplishment of Yerevan General Architect Aleksander Tamanyan’s project, Petrosyan said that Tamanyan has left a lot of unaccomplished projects, one of which is lifting of Vladimir Lenin’s monument in front of the Opera building, but it does not mean that architects intend to embody the idea. In turn, Deputy Chairman of the Armenian Architects Union Aleksander Badalyan stressed that before this decision making, it should have been planned beforehand. According to him, it such issue no snap decisions should be made. “We have no right to adopt an erroneous decision in this issue,” he said adding that the Republic square is a symbol of Armenia’s statehood and its image cannot be spoilt.
