Christie's to auction Armenian carpet

Christie's to auction Armenian carpet

PanARMENIAN.Net - On April 24, an Armenian carpet will be sold at Christie's auction house in London.

“The carpet was woven in Armenia’s Berdavan village (formerly called Ghalacha) of historical Gugark province in 1879. Exclusively natural organic paints were used. The yarn is brilliant. The date woven in the carpet proves that it was intended for laying out during celebrations,” famous carpet expert Vahram Tatikian told PanARMENIAN.Net

The item has been given the name “Armenian Ghazakh” at the auction house.

“If not the Armenian letters on the carpet it would be called simply “Ghazakh” and would be attributed to Azerbaijanis,” Mr. Tatikian said .

The initial price of the item totals £4000-6000.
