LORD RUSSELL-JOHNSTON CONCERNED OVER RECENT ASSAULT AT ARMENIAN LAWYER

PanARMENIAN.Net - Head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Lord Russell-Johnston addressed a letter to Armenian President Robert Kocharian, in which he expressed his concern over the assault at chairman of the Helsinki Association of Armenia, lawyer Mikael Danielian that took place in Yerevan on March 30, 2004. In Russell-Johnston's words, to preserve a good name Armenia should conduct a scrupulous and transparent investigation of the incident, the International Institute of Democracy reports. "When human rights defenders are attacked, suspicions about political motives inevitably occur", PACE head noted expressing hope for the soonest resolving of the problem.
