GERMAN PRESS DOUBTS EXPEDIENCY OF TURKEY'S ACCESSION TO EU

PanARMENIAN.Net - The supporters of admission of Turkey to the European Union resort to noble, however not too cogent arguments, Leipziger Volkszeitung German newspaper writes. It is clear that integration of Turkey into the EU will promote political stabilization in the country. However, will it do good to the European Union? - the newspaper asks. In case of accession, Turkey will be the country with the highest number of population in the EU. This means that Ankara will be influential in the Council of EU Ministers, and it will be represented by the most numerous group of deputies in the European Parliament. One can hardly assume the countries coming for admission of Turkey to the EU to agree with such a shift of power allocation, the newspaper supposes. Moreover, the joining of new countries to the EU will mean enlargement of the EU territory. In case of Turkey's accession, the EU will border with Syria, Iraq, Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia, i.e. crisis regions, the German newspaper writes.
