Hailstorm damage assessed at $30-40mln in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia has estimated the hailstorm damage at USD 30-40 mln, the head of the union said.

“Area of about 20 thous. hectares has been damaged,” Hrachya Berberyan said, urging the country’s government and the president to extend financial assistance to the rural residents to prevent large-scale emigration.

He further noted that Europe currently refuses to install anti-hail stations operating with acetylene, with propan butan having come to replace it.

It’s noteworthy that the hailstorm inflicted great damage in early May, particularly in Armenia’s Armavir province.
