WB to Allocate $5 Million to Armenia to Fight Bird FluJanuary 18, 2006 - 15:03 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The World Bank intends to provide some $5 million to Armenia to prevent penetration of bird flu, Spokesperson of the WB Office in Yerevan Vigen Sargsyan. In his words, the Armenian Government now is holding talks over getting a credit and priority measures are discussed. All questions referring to providing the sum of the credit and its goals will be specified within a month. The credit will determine the grant amount. It should be noted that for the same goal the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) provided some $35 thousand to Armenia past year. Besides, to familiarize with the situation on the avian influenza in Armenia three FAO specialists will arrive in Armenia within three days. The specialists will hold explanatory work on holding laboratory examinations to detect avian influenza virus. In the words of a FAO officer, within the summed provided schedules of migration of birds will be composed. The FAO representation assured that no cases of infection with bird flu are registered in Armenia at the moment, reported IA Regnum. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
