Karabakh should return to negotiations at some point: OSCE MG co-chair

PanARMENIAN.Net - Karabakh should return to the conflict settlement negotiations at some point, the Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group said.

As Igor Popov noted after the meeting with the Nagorno Karabakh Republic leader Bako Sahakyan, "Karabakh involvement is necessary, seeing as the fate of the NKR people depends on the outcome of talks. The issue will be discussed once the work on fundamental principles in completed."

The co-chair further referred to deaths at the frontline over ceasefire violations. "The issue is being discussed, yet the situation is not what we'd want it to be. People continue to die, though the number of deaths has slightly decreased," Popov noted, adding that the issue will be discussed at the NKR Defense Ministry.

The U.S. co-chair of the OSCE MG James Warlick, in turn, commented on the possibility of Turkey's involvement in the Karabakh conflict settlement.

"I can't speak on behalf of Turkey. However, should the country wish to play any role in the settlement, it must be a positive one," he said, adding that Yerevan-Ankara relations are in no way connected to the conflict settlement.
