New prosecutor assigned to Dink murder, Ergenekon cases![]() February 10, 2014 - 16:12 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Prosecutor Murat İnam has been assigned to the Ergenekon coup plot trial and the murder case of Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant Dink, after prosecutor Muammer Akkaş was removed from the cases in a judicial purge last month, Hurriyet Daily News reports. İnam received all the case files that Akkaş had been dealing with in Istanbul, including the above-mentioned cases. Akkaş wanted to launch a second wave of corruption probes right after the initial one that shook the agenda on Dec 17, 2013. He was prevented as the new Istanbul Police Chief Selami Altınok refused to implement the prosecutor’s orders to carry out the arrests. Akkaş was later appointed to the Tekirdağ Chief Prosecutor’s office with a decision of Turkey’s Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) on Jan 16. Related links: ![]() ![]() Ergenekon Ergenekon is clandestine, Kemalist ultra-nationalist organization in Turkey with ties to members of the country\'s military and security forces. The group is accused of terrorism in Turkey. It is named after Ergenekon, a mythical place located in the inaccessible valleys of the Altay Mountains. Some experts believe there are links between Ergenekon and numerous militant organizations, such as the Kurdistan Workers\' Party (PKK), the extreme-left Revolutionary People\'s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C), the Islamist organization Hizbullah, the ultranationalist Turkish Revenge Brigades (TİT), the Turkish Workers\' and Peasants\' Liberation Army (TİKKO), the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party(MLKP) and the Hizb ut-Tahrir (Party of Liberation), an extreme group wishing to reinstate the Islamic Caliphate. Alleged members have been indicted on charges of plotting to foment unrest by assassinating intellectuals, politicians, judges, military staff, and religious leaders, with the ultimate goal of toppling the pro-Western incumbent government.
