“Everest” star-studded drama release date moved

PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal has pushed back the release of its mountain climbing drama from Feb. 27, 2015, to Sept. 18, 2015, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Directed by 2 Guns helmer Baltasar Kormakur, the film, which will be released in 3D, stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal. The cast is rounded out by Martin Henderson, Emily Watson, Michael Kelly and Thomas M. Wright.

The project, which is based on a true story, follows the events of an ill-fated 1996 climb to the top of the world's tallest mountain. It is shooting on location in Nepal on the foothills of Everest, the Italian Alps and at Cinecitta Studios in Rome and Pinewood Studios in the U.K. Universal will distribute the film worldwide.

Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson, as well as Nicky Kentish Barnes and Kormakur are producing. Universal and Cross Creek Pictures’ presentation of Everest — in association with Walden Media — is adapted for the screen by Mark Medoff and Simon Beaufoy.

Everest would have faced off against both the Ryan Reynolds starrer Selfless and Focus, a film starring Will Smith, on its old date. The new Sept. 18 date is currently wide open.
