Foursquare rolls out new Swarm app on Android and iOS

PanARMENIAN.Net - Foursquare has started its plan to split its service into two with the launch of Swarm, Digital Spy said.

The new standalone app handles the social side of the original service, taking on location sharing with friends and check-ins.

While users can use Swarm to share their exact location or neighbourhood with friends, they can also use stickers when checking in and share how often they visit a certain place.

The mayorship feature has also moved across to Swarm, although mayors will be allocated between friends rather than strangers.

"With these new mayorships, if you and a couple friends have been checking into a place, the person who has been there the most lately gets a crown sticker," Foursquare explained.

"So you and your friends can compete for the mayorship of your favourite bar, without having to worry about the guy who is there every. single. day. Mayors 2.0 means that places can have many different mayors, one for each circle of friends, instead of just a single mayor at each place."

The other Foursquare app - which will keep the original name - is set to focus purely on discovery. While Foursquare was also updated, users can still compete to be mayors with strangers for the moment until the launch of a brand new app in the summer.
