Armenia, Russia, Iran, Georgia sign road map for North-South Corridor

PanARMENIAN.Net - Energy Ministers of Armenia, Russia, Iran, and the deputy energy minister of Georgia on Wednesday, April 13 signed the road map for building the North-South Energy Corridor.

After inking the deal, Armenia’s deputy energy minister Areg Galstyan said the road map formalizes the steps and programs to be implemented until 2019, when the energy corridor is supposed to be launched, ARKA reports.

According to him, the power transmission lines between Armenia and Iran as well as Armenia and Georgia, will enable parallel operation of power systems of the four countries.

Galstyan said the South-North Energy Corridor will be used primarily for seasonal electricity swaps via third countries. According to him, once the corridor is launched, its capacity will reach about 1,000 MW.

He said Armenia and Iran are building a power transmission line with funding from Tehran, while another power transmission line is being built between Armenia and Georgia with funding from German KfW bank.
