Canada adds helicopters, intelligence centre, trainers to anti-IS coalition

PanARMENIAN.Net - Canada will deploy three Bell CH-146 Griffon (412EP) multirole helicopters, an all-source intelligence centre, and additional trainers to Operation “Impact,” Canada's contribution to the counter-Islamic State coalition, the Department of National Defence announced on Thursday, May 19, HIS Jane’s 360 said.

The CH-146s are capable of troop and cargo transport, medevac, search-and-rescue, and patrol missions. It was announced in February that Canada would deploy a helicopter detachment to support its train, advise, and assist mission in Iraq, but it was not clear which aircraft would be deployed. Canada also operates 15 Boeing CH-147 (CH-47F) cargo helicopters.

The intelligence centre will be responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing intelligence from various sources.
