U.S. Senate Committee visits Armenian border communities![]() July 22, 2016 - 11:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A delegation of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services staff on Thursday, July 21 visited the 3rd Army Corps of Armenian Defense Ministry and met with the Deputy Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan, as well as the command staff of the Corps. At the meeting, the delegation was briefed about the current situation at the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border, frequency of ceasefire violations by the Azeris and the consequences. Also, the Armenian side presented Yerevan’s stance on the necessary measures for securing adherence to ceasefire. The U.S. delegation held meetings with the chief of Tavush province Hovik Abovyan and the heads of the border communities, who presented the impacts of ceasefire violations on the civilians’ daily routine. Also, the delegation visited the training center of Armenian Defense Ministry’s Peacekeeping Brigade to learn more about their involvement in current and future missions. ![]() ![]() As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed. David Vardanyan is the son of former Karabakh leader Ruben Vardanyan who who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan.
