UN says ready to resume Syria aid convoys![]() September 22, 2016 - 09:53 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The UN has said it is ready to resume aid convoys in Syria after halting operations in response to a deadly attack on an aid mission on Monday, September 19, according to Reuters. Trucks will start rolling to some areas but "carefully and cautiously", the UN envoy to Syria Staffan di Mistura told the BBC. Meanwhile, the U.S. has called for all planes to be grounded in key areas of Syria to preserve the truce. International powers will discuss peace efforts on Thursday in New York. The International Syrian Contact Group includes both the U.S. and Russia. There was still hope for an agreement, Mistura added, saying that the U.S. and Russia had "a responsibility". "They have to rein in, they have to convince their own partners that this is serious. The alternative is chaos, is war. So I'm still optimistic." Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive. Partner news |
