Aronian celebrates 3rd win in a row at Grenke Chess Classic R5

PanARMENIAN.Net - Levon Aronian of Armenia beat Azerbaijan's Arkadij Naiditsch in the fifth round of the Grenke Chess Classic, currently underway in the German town of Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden.

With two rounds to go and a full-point lead, Aronian is the clear favorite to win this event as of Thursday, April 20.

On the current rankings list, Aronian leads with 4.0 points overall, followed by Fabiano Caruana (U.S.), Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and Hou Yifan of China with 3.0 points each, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France with 2.5 points each, while Georg Meier and Matthias Bluebaum share the 7-8th spots, with 1 point each.

The fifth round of the tournament will be held on Friday.
