RA Defense Minister called on ICRC to urge Azerbaijan to stop tortures of Armenian citizens

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan met Saturday with James Reynolds, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Armenia.



Mr Ohanyan appreciated highly the ICRC mission aimed to preserve supreme human values, Minister's spokesman, col. Seyran Shahsuvaryan told PanARMENIAN.Net



The Minister drew Mr Reynolds' attention to the fact that 5 Armenian citizens (4 civilians and 1 serviceman) kept in Azeri captivity are being subjected to tortures. He called on the ICRC to urge Azerbaijan to put an end to inhuman treatment of the Armenian captives and to assist in their transfer to the homeland.



The officials also referred to bilateral relations. "Armenia has always preserved humanitarian principles and values, which underlie the ICRC activity," Minister Ohanyan said.

Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult.
The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova.
