Minister defends Armenia's humanitarian mission in Syria

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia is carrying out humanitarian mission in Syria in accordance with law, Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan told a joint news conference with his Cypriot counterpart Savvas Angelides in Yerevan on Tuesday, February 12, Aysor.am reports.

“We have mentioned in the official statement that we had received a written request from Syria's de facto authorities, and Armenia is carrying out its humanitarian mission in Syria in accordance with law,” Tonoyan said.

The minister said that in the event of necessity to participate in military activities in Syria "Armenia will do it in accordance with the law."

“Of course, we will also try to cooperate with the non-parliamentary forces while making such a decision,” Tonoyan said.

A group of Armenian humanitarian demining experts, medical personnel and specialists ensuring the safety of the entire group - a total of 83 people - traveled to Aleppo, Syria on February 8 to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.
