Istanbul: Armenians attacked by group of Azerbaijanis

PanARMENIAN.Net - Three young Armenians have been attacked by a group of Azerbaijanis in Istanbul, Turkey, according to a video the perps posted online after the attack. The video has now been removed.

Turkish Armenian newspaper Agos spoke to the mother of one of the attacked youth. The woman said they Armenians were taking a taxi when they were approached by the Azerbaijani group and asked questions about Karabakh.

The said they were not interested in such issues, the woman said, but were attacked anyway.

Besides those three, two other Armenians over the age of 50 have been attacked in the same neighborhood, while the staff of a store run by an Armenian woman have been harassed.

The situation on the border between the two countries escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan launching several unsuccessful infiltration attempts throughout the next week. The Azerbaijani military also used artillery and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements in Armenia. Five servicemen of the Armenian army were killed, while Azerbaijan reported 12 deaths.

The border unrest has resulted in clashes abroad, with groups of Azerbaijanis attacking Armenians and cars with Armenian license plates in several countries.
