Junior Sergeant Hovik Tamazyan died after receiving bullet and shrapnel wounds from the Azerbaijani side. An investigation into the details of the incident is underway. The Armenian Defense Ministry said the Azerbaijani military has been promoting frontline tensions by attempting to launch engineering work on the border in the past several days. The Ministry added that the Armenian troops had to take steps to suppress the rival's activity. "The entire responsibility for the current situation and the increase in border tensions rests with the authorities of Azerbaijan," the Ministry added. The situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan launching several unsuccessful infiltration attempts throughout the next week. The Azerbaijani military also used artillery and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements in Armenia. Five servicemen of the Armenian army were killed, while Azerbaijan reported 12 deaths. In recent weeks, though, the situation was relatively calm.
