Constitutional rights of Javakhk activists violated

PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgian Public Defender Sozar Subari made a statement on the Georgian government's deliberate delay to register French lawyer Patrick Arapyan as a defender for Javakhk political activist, Leader of United Javakhk Political Movement Vahagn Chakhalyan.

He slammed the delay as a violation of constitution-guaranteed protection right, Bagin.info informs.

At the night of July 20, 2008 Georgian special squad soldiers and the local police burst into the house of United Javakhk Leader Vahagn Chakhalyan, arrested him and his family members.

Only 3 hearings have been held since Chakhalyan's arrest, where the observers, including those from Georgian Ombudsman's office, registered gross violations.

On Dec. 3 new charges were laid against Chakhalyan and the trial postponed for an indefinite period.
