Two dead, one injured as Russian helicopter downed in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Two crew members of a Russian helicopter downed in Armenia were killed, one was evacuated with injuries on Monday, November 9, the Russian Defense Ministry reports.

The Mi-24 aircraft accompanying a convoy of the Russian military base in Armenia was shot down with a man-portable air-defense system (MANPAD), the Ministry added.

The helicopter was shot down when flying above the Armenian settlement of Yeraskh, near the border with Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (Azerbaijan).

The Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic is part of Azerbaijan, which, with help from Turkey and terrorist mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
