Yerevan: Alen Simonyan elected President of National Assembly

PanARMENIAN.Net - Alen Simonyan from Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party has been elected as the President of the National Assembly.

71 lawmakers on Monday, August 2 voted in favor of the appointment in the post of Simonyan, who previously served as a Deputy Speaker of parliament. The opposition Armenia and "I Have Honor" blocs did not participate in voting.

Former mayor of Meghri Mkhitar Zakaryan from Armenia bloc and Sisian mayor Artur Sargsyan from "I Have Honor" alliance were nominated for the position too.
