Pashinyan: Azerbaijan demanded corridor in return of key roadNovember 11, 2021 - 16:07 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan has demanded a corridor through Armenia to connect with the Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic in return for not establishing customs checkpoints on the Goris-Kapan road in Syunik province, which passes through pockets of Azeri-controlled territories, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday, November 11. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said earlier that Azerbaijan has notified Armenia that it will be establishing customs posts on said road. Grigoryan added that the Armenian side too will establish customs and border checkpoints on the same section of the road. Pashinyan said Thursday that matter could have been negotiated but the price for Armenia would have been the corridor. He added, however, that the Armenian side has never and will never discuss such an option. The Prime Minister also recommended using the alternative road recently completed to replace the Goris-Kapan road. Grigoryan too weighed in on the matter Thursday, saying that Azerbaijan's demand is not acceptable for the Armenian side.
