Russian peacekeepers ensure security of road workers in Karabakh

Russian peacekeepers have ensured the safety of road workers during the construction of a 15-kilometer section of a road in Shushi region of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reports.

"Thanks to the Russian peacekeeping contingent, road workers can safely rebuild the road. Since the territory is located near the line of contact, the administration asked the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent to ensure the safety of roadworks. More than 15 kilometers of the road have already been restored," said a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, Danil Nikitin.

30 kilometers of the road will be restored in total, construction work is planned to be completed by the end of the year. The road will serve both civilians for the safe movement and peacekeepers to create a new patrol route.

The peacekeeping contingent was deployed in Karabakh on November 10, immediately after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
