Azerbaijan announces plans to build transmission line through Armenia![]() February 12, 2022 - 14:07 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan is planning to build a transmission line to Nakhijevan through what it calls the "Zangezur corridor" through Armenia, and from there to Turkey and Iran. Azeri President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks in an interview with Azertag news agency. The Azerbaijani side has on multiple occasions raised the question about a "corridor" through the southern Armenian province of Syunik that would connect Nakhijevan to the rest of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, however, has repeatedly denied being involved in negotiations for the provision of a corridor to Azerbaijan, stressing that they have only agreed to unblock transport communications in the region. “Now we are working on a new energy project to lay a power line to Nakhijevan, and from there to international markets – to Turkey and Iran," Aliyev said. "The Zangezur corridor is not only a railway, but a road and a air route." ![]() ![]() Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
