Turkey reportedly demining area bordering Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey has allegedly started to demine the area bordering Armenia, GazeteKars reports citing local residents.

As the citizens of Kars were waiting for the border gates of the Doğukapı freight station near the Turkey-Armenia border to open, they discovered that an Israeli company had been clearing mines.

Mine clearance works in the countryside of the village of Ibiş in Kars have allegedly been ongoing for about 20 days.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, July 11 pledged to build on a recently established process aimed at normalizing travel, trade, and diplomatic relations between their two countries.

Armenia and Turkey last December named special envoys to discuss the normalization of ties. Four rounds of talks followed on January 14, February 24, May 3 and July 1. During their last meeting, they also agreed on commencing direct air cargo trade between Armenia and Turkey at the earliest possible date and decided to initiate the necessary process to that effect.
