Armenia, U.S. discuss regional security issues

PanARMENIAN.Net - Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with Karen Donfried, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs to discuss regional security issues.

Views were exchanged on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Mirzoyan reaffirmed the urgent need to lift Azerbaijan’s illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor and restore its regular regime defined by the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020, without any preconditions.

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
