Embassy denies Armenia sent special forces to Georgia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Embassy of Armenia in Georgia has denied news reports disseminated in local media, alleging that Armenia has sent special forces to help disperse protests in Tbilisi.

"We call and urge the mass media to refrain from spreading such false information, as well as not from giveingin to provocations," the Embassy told Aliq Media.

The Georgian news agency Pirvelinews, citing an unnamed protester, reported that special forces are being brought to Georgia from Armenia.

According to a report from the BBC, police have used water cannon and tear gas against protesters in Georgia's capital, Tbilisi, for a second night.

The crowds are angry at a controversial Russian-style law, which would class non-government and media groups as "foreign agents" if they receive more than 20% of their funds from abroad.

On Wednesday evening, police pushed back protesters who pulled down a metal barrier outside parliament.
