U.S. Senator in Armenia amid deepening crisis in Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - A congressional delegation led by Senator Gary Peters, a Democrat from Michigan, has arrived in Armenia, according to a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan.

Peters' trip comes just days after a deadly military offensive launched by Baku against the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, whose authorities ultimately agreed to a ceasefire on Azerbaijan’s terms, including the dissolution of the Defense Army.

During his visit to Armenia from September 22 to 25, Senator Peters will hold meetings with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan, Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan, and other stakeholders.

The discussions will focus on Armenian-American relations and the repercussions of recent military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan. Senator Peters will also pay his respects at the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex.

According to the U.S. Embassy, Senator Peters will further travel to Syunik, where he will engage with local officials to address security and humanitarian challenges in the region.
