Baku's military drills, equipment transfers spark tensions: Grigoryan

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, has expressed concern over statements made by Baku. He shared this view during a press briefing.

Grigoryan noted that Azerbaijan continues to conduct intensive military drills and actively operates flights, likely transporting military equipment to Baku from other countries.

"Over the past few years, we have worked in various directions to establish as much stability as possible in the region," Grigoryan stated, as reported by Aysor.am .

He highlighted the presence of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia as a key example and expressed hope that Brussels will decide to extend the mission's mandate.

"Armenia's accession to the Rome Statute, which we believe is an important factor for stability, along with ongoing military reforms in Armenia, are significant elements of regional stability. We consider all these factors together," Grigoryan emphasized.

Discussing Armenia's foreign policy, Grigoryan underscored that the country “does not prioritize its relations with one state at the expense of another.” He pointed out Armenia's commitment to deepening cooperation with Brussels, EU member states, and the United States.

Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that Armenia must engage in dialogue with the so-called “Western Azerbaijan” community, referring to nearly the entire territory of Armenia, including Yerevan.

Aliyev claimed that Yerevan and Baku have yet to agree on two points of a future peace treaty: mutual renunciation of claims in international courts and the presence of third-country forces along the border. He added that Armenia must meet two additional conditions before signing the treaty—amend its Constitution and consent to the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.
