Envoy: France supports Armenians displaced from Artsakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies stated that France’s local authorities support the Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian regions hosting them. The ambassador shared this message on X.

He also expressed gratitude to the governor of Armavir for discussing the situation of the displaced Armenians.

"Many thanks to Armavir Governor Argishti Mekhakyan and his team for exchanging views with the delegation of France’s local authorities on the situation of the 10,000 refugees settled in the region," the ambassador wrote.

On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack on Artsakh, subjecting the entire territory to intense shelling. As a result, the authorities of the Artsakh Republic accepted the Russian peacekeeping command’s proposal for a ceasefire on September 20, agreeing to Baku’s terms, including the disarmament of the Defense Army and the dissolution of the Artsakh Republic. The forced displacement of Artsakh Armenians began on September 24, with over 100,000 people fleeing to Armenia. According to some reports, only about 20 Armenians remain in Artsakh. On September 28, Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree on the dissolution of the republic, which came into force on January 1, 2024.
