Armenian PM discusses peace deal with leaders of France, Iran

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, informing him about the finalization of the text of the "Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan" and the conclusion of negotiations on the matter.

During the call, they also discussed Armenia-France and Armenia-European Union relations, as well as developments in the South Caucasus region.

Pashinyan also spoke with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.

The Armenian Prime Minister informed Pezeshkian about the finalization of the peace agreement’s text and the completion of negotiations.

The two leaders also discussed regional developments and various issues concerning Armenia-Iran bilateral relations.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that Yerevan has accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on the two previously unresolved articles, making the peace agreement ready for signing. Armenia has expressed readiness to begin consultations on the date and venue of the signing. However, Baku has set new preconditions and stated that it is premature to discuss the timing of a meeting.

The peace agreement consists of 17 articles, 15 of which had been previously agreed upon. One of the remaining disputed points concerned the renunciation of international legal claims against each other, while the other involved a provision prohibiting the deployment of third-party representatives along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
