Defense Ministry signs deals for new arms acquisitions

PanARMENIAN.Net - A series of contracts have been signed for the supply of new weaponry, with continuing military infrastructure upgrades and a stable situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, speaking before a parliamentary committee, addressed the modernization of weaponry and military equipment, revealing that contracts have been signed with a number of domestic and international companies for the procurement of new models.

He added that engineering and fortification works are ongoing, including the construction and renovation of permanent military installations, according to Radar.am .

Papikyan also noted that despite Azerbaijani claims of ceasefire violations, the operational situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has remained relatively stable throughout 2024.

“To define the main directions for implementing fundamental systemic reforms in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, a transformation concept for the army was developed, approved, and published in 2024. In addition, an action plan derived from this concept has also been developed,” he said, referring to the government’s defense-related performance program.

The session continued behind closed doors, as classified information was to be discussed.

Since March 16, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense has repeatedly spread disinformation, alleging gunfire from the Armenian side. These statements have been consistently denied by Armenia’s Ministry of Defense and refuted by the EU monitoring mission.
