Opposition MP says public misled on security discussions with EU![]() March 25, 2025 - 11:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Hayk Mamijanyan, head of the “I Have Honor” parliamentary faction, during a press briefing at the National Assembly rebuffed a statement made by Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan. In a Facebook post, Mamijanyan highlighted that Hovhannisyan assured that a document being discussed with the EU would include for the first time the mention of Armenia-EU security cooperation, presenting it as a new development. However, Mamijanyan emphasized that this claim was misleading. According to him, during the tenure of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), a CEPA agreement was negotiated and signed, which already included cooperation in the security sector, detailed in both external and internal security aspects. Mamijanyan pointed out that Hovhannisyan's claim about discussing a document that would mention security cooperation for the first time with the EU was misleading, as CEPA already ensured security cooperation, outlined in separate sections and articles covering both external and internal security issues. He added, "This was the first revelation of the falsehoods from today's press briefing. There will be more coming soon." At a meeting of the Standing Committee on European Integration in the National Assembly, Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan emphasized that security issues have been included in the new EU partnership agenda, which now recognizes security cooperation as an independent direction within the Armenia-EU partnership. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. ![]() ![]() Partner news | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
