Azerbaijan FM addresses Armenian Constitution in UK talks

PanARMENIAN.Net - On April 29, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a phone conversation with the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty. The parties discussed current issues in bilateral and regional cooperation, along with topics related to regional and global security.

Regarding the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Bayramov spoke about progress in the peace treaty negotiations and what he described as the main obstacles hindering its conclusion, according to APA.

He reiterated Azerbaijan’s claim that “Armenia’s Constitution and other legislative acts contain territorial claims against Azerbaijan”, stating that renouncing such provisions is of “paramount importance” for achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

At the end of the call, both sides also exchanged views on other mutually relevant matters.

Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated at a joint press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier that Azerbaijan’s demands of Armenia include the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group and a constitutional amendment in Armenia to eliminate what he claimed are territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
