Russia warns Armenia over possible EAEU treaty violation![]() May 1, 2025 - 13:51 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Eurasian Economic Union has legal mechanisms under international law to protect the interests of member states if Armenia violates the terms of the union’s treaty, said Mikhail Agasandyan, Director of the First CIS Department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, in an interview with RIA Novosti. "If Yerevan still takes steps that contradict the EAEU's law, which we hope will not happen, or in other words, essentially violates the EAEU Treaty, we have the necessary international legal mechanisms to protect the interests of the other member states of the union," said Agasandyan. According to the diplomat, Armenia has never publicly or privately expressed an intention to withdraw from the EAEU treaty. On the contrary, it remains an active participant in union negotiations, which reflects its ongoing interest in advancing Eurasian integration. Previously, Russian officials emphasized that the EAEU’s stability depends on members fulfilling their commitments. Although Armenia has shown signs of closer ties with the European Union, no formal steps have been taken to leave the EAEU. Russian diplomats expressed hope that constructive dialogue with Yerevan within the framework of the union will continue. ![]() ![]() The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
