Deputy FM briefs UN on rights progress in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk to discuss Armenia’s national report for the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review. The meeting addressed the ongoing cooperation between Armenia and the UN human rights office.

Abisoghomonyan presented the reforms currently underway in the field of human rights in Armenia.

Both sides stressed the importance of continuing the partnership, with particular emphasis on the role of the Office’s expert resources.

Abisoghomonyan also drew attention to recent developments in the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, underlining the need to sign an interstate peace agreement. He highlighted the importance of addressing humanitarian issues, including clarifying the fate of missing persons and securing the release of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages held unlawfully in Azerbaijan.
