MP says fake Baku trials not just about Armenian captives

PanARMENIAN.Net - The ongoing fake trial in Baku, staged under the guise of justice, targets not only the detained Armenians but aims at something far broader, according to Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan.

In a Facebook post, Abrahamyan wrote that "only at first glance does it seem that the fake trial’s target in Baku is limited to the Armenians held there."

He emphasized that Azerbaijan is deploying every tool of falsification to delegitimize the Armenian national liberation struggle and its leaders, branding them as international criminals, while simultaneously seeking to nullify Armenia’s historic achievements and incite accusations against the Armenian people.

Abrahamyan also noted that footage shown during the latest court session depicted visits by Serzh Sargsyan, in his capacity as head of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s (NKR) self-defense forces committee, to various frontlines. He was welcomed there by commanders including Monte Melkonian and Davit Ishkhanyan.

In September 2023, following a nine-month blockade of Artsakh and the ethnic cleansing of its entire Armenian population, Azerbaijan captured former NKR presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan, along with former state minister Ruben Vardanyan, foreign minister Davit Babayan, and several other former officials. The trumped-up charges against them could lead to life imprisonment. The sham trial against these leaders began in Baku on January 17.
