Armenian nuclear plant halts for 60-day maintenance![]() May 14, 2025 - 18:02 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian nuclear power plant will suspend operations for 60 days starting at midnight on May 15 due to planned maintenance, announced the plant's First Deputy Director General Movses Vardanyan during a visit by Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin. This maintenance period will exceed the standard schedule by 15 days, as in addition to routine servicing, the plant will replace the automation systems of the turbine department, as well as the protection systems of its generators and transformers. Furthermore, the emergency shutdown system for low-voltage circuits (6 and 0.4 kV) will also be replaced, according to Sputnik Armenia. The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant provides nearly one-third of Armenia’s electricity. In 2024, it generated over 2.7 billion kWh of power. ![]() ![]() Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”. Armenia will loan 2.9 billion drams to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), according to a draft government decision. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has “strongly condemned” Armenia’s decision.
