Three Armenians elected to Beirut city council![]() May 22, 2025 - 15:13 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Three Armenian representatives have been elected to the Beirut city council following Lebanon’s local elections on May 18 in Beirut and the Bekaa Governorate. All candidates nominated by Armenian traditional political parties won their races, according to the press office of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party in Lebanon, Armenpress reports. The newly elected Armenian members of the Beirut City Council are Hovhannes Buchakjian from the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party and Serj Melkonian and Vahram Parsoumian from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. The council comprises 24 members, and the Armenian candidates participated under the coalition “Beirut Will Unite Us.” The coalition was reportedly formed with balanced representation from both Christian and Muslim communities, and the involvement of Armenian political groups played a decisive role in the voting outcome. “The Armenian votes were a decisive factor in the list’s success,” said the Hunchakian press office, adding that the results also highlight the Armenian community’s political relevance ahead of Lebanon’s 2026 parliamentary elections. Parallel to the city council elections, municipal chief (mukhtar) elections were also held, where candidates from the Hunchakian, ARF, and Armenian Democratic Liberal (Ramgavar) parties won across the board. The unified approach demonstrated by the Armenian community during this election stage underscores its active and ongoing role in Lebanon’s socio-political landscape. ![]() ![]() The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
