RA government drafts support plan for brandy producers

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government is developing support programs for local brandy producers, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan told reporters after a cabinet session, addressing ongoing concerns in the sector.

Papoyan said the government aims to ensure uninterrupted grape procurement during the September–October harvest season. “We will support all companies involved in the harvest-export process, provided they guarantee consistent and high-quality grape collection,” he emphasized, as reported by Armenpress.

He also addressed export challenges posed by Georgia, where brandy and other alcohol shipments to Russia have faced delays. Papoyan noted he will soon meet with brandy producers to discuss these issues. A previous public meeting has already been held.

“We’ve had discussions with the Georgian side and will continue talks with our producers. The government has not and will not abandon our grape growers, farmers, spirit producers, or exporters. We will introduce targeted support mechanisms,” Papoyan assured.

Brandy producers and freight carriers have staged protests, including in front of the Georgian Embassy in Yerevan, citing customs delays and prolonged laboratory inspections at Georgian checkpoints as major disruptions.
